RBI has launched a new UPI service,123PAY. It aims to support approximately 40 million feature phone users in the country. The new features were announced by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das. Previously, UPI payments were only possible via smartphone payment apps and USSD-based services for feature phones. However, according to Vice Governor T Rabi Shankar, the latter turned out to be annoying due to the lack of services on some mobile networks.

What is UPI 123Pay?

Simply put, UPI 123Pay allows you to send money and other financial transactions via feature phones. The system does not require an internet connection to send or receive money. With UPI 123Pay, users no longer need a smartphone or internet connection to make payments via a unified payment interface. To use the UPI service, customers simply link their bank account to a feature phone that contains debit card details.
